Yes, for background characters like the Monokuma kids and the reserve course! Not for major players and certainly not for the 77th class!

"But Naegi said in chapter 6 they were brainwashed!"

Yes, figureatively. He could have meant anything. He could have been referring to the future foundation brainwashing their memories as they entered the Neo-World Program so it would function as intended. He could have been referring to brainwashing in a psychological way. He could have meant anything.

Also, if you're using Chapter 6 as evidence, look at what Monokuma himself says on the matter:

Also keep in mind that Monokuma is controlled by Enoshima (or in this game, Enoshima's AI) so this is literally Enoshima herself admitting to manipulating them one by one.

Also, she has precedent for doing this even outwith the 77th class. With her sister, with Matsuda, and with the warriors of hope. She was even implied to have managed it with Kamukura.

PLUS, look at the way Tsumiki behaves after she's found guilty in SDR2. She speaks about her beloved as if she took her in and made her feel loved.

PLUS look at the way Komaeda acts after he discovers the truth in the Final Dead Room. From that moment onward he speaks to his classmates in a complete 180 from how he did before, berating them instead of worshipping their talents, and acting disgusted with them at every opportunity. He would not have behaved that way had the class not actually have been responsible for their own actions.

So no, it's not a case of "not matching with our old headcanons". Brainwashing the 77th class with a video, is quite literally, a retcon.

Been watching ghcoffee livestream danganronpa & it’s getting me in the mood…

I’ve been thinking abt a 77/78 role swap AU (remnants!78 & HPA killing game!77) and I got stuck on a thread of an idea:

AI Junko wouldn’t be fucking with 78 in the same way she did 77.

I think i read somewhere that junko loves her class, in her own twisted way, but doesn’t give a shit about 77, the people she brainwashed to bring true despair to the world. Like, to the point that the AI of her spends all of SDR2 fucking with class 77 to get Makoto’s attention.

Like, if the roles were truly swapped & 78 were loaded into the neo-world program with AI Junko, she’s technically won. She has her class in a finite program with her, forever. (Of course, the real Junko’s probably already dead, so it isn’t the real her. Which I think would bring her despair that she’s dead, but yknow.)

She’d keep doing the killing game ofc, because she wants to draw them into despair, but I think chapter 6 pulls up & instead of her junkoland plan, her plan differs:

She offers to keep them in neo-world, by reviving their dead classmates. Junko explains that as the headmaster, she has power over the neo-world, which means she can revive anybody, any time. They can kill as they please, and revive as they please, experiencing every which way to die, completely forgetting the outside world.

Idk how OOC this is, but I think she’d do this. I think she’d want to keep them in a despair loop for the rest of their existences.

Izuru coming in wouldn’t be met with happiness like how she does w makoto, but cold fury. He’s an intruder, intruding on her & her class.

My Danganronpa LBGTQ Headcanons that I Like/Use.

So yeah! I’m gonna say some of my LBGTQ Headcanons that I use for Danganronpa Stuff!!! (This is my opinion btw and yours can be completely different then mine!!!)

1 - Junko Enoshima is Pansexual

2 - Monokuma is a LBGTQ Ally

3 - Ultimate Imposter is Genderfluid or Non binary

4 - Ibuki is Bisexual or Pansexual

5 - Gundam is Bisexual

6 - Tenko is Pansexual or Bisexual

7 - Shuichi is Bisexual (I heard this one was canon somewhere in an interview though I could be wrong.)

thinking about how class 77 probably was looking forward to seeing Chisa again after they got out of the neo world program, after all they know that she was with the future foundation during the tragedy, and sure she may still be brainwashed but they can save her now!

And then when they ask Makoto about it he has to tell them that she died, and none of them are even allowed to see her body and say goodbye, they've lost the other person who had brought them all together in the first place..

Anyways after watching DR3 again I gotta say, it wasn't as dogshit as I remembered. I mean, the future arc is still kinda ass, but watching both seasons separately totally fucked over my blind watch of both, so I really wish it were more spoken about that you're supposed to alternate episodes. It makes it tough for newer fans in the space to make sense of what's happening :(

That said, the Despair arc slaps, ily Chisa Yukizome my underrated queen trapped in a subpar anime

Also, the despair arc really took an already phenomenal story with AI Chiaki and just??? Expanded upon it in the most devastatingly beautiful way??? Making her not only real, but class 77's class rep and the unintending heart of the class, to the point where Junko knew that she was the embodiment of their hope and put her specifically through the rigged maze. And the sucker punch to the gut of AI Chiaki being born because EVERYONE LOVED HER SO MUCH THAT A 1:1 RECREATION OF HER SOUL WAS GENERATED? I think that hits a looooot harder in a modern day where generative AI has become so commomplace. For her to be perfectly regenerated in the way she was AND become the class' hope AGAIN in sdr2, the Neo World Program would've had to been fed all good data that matched perfectly. And despite the fact that 15 different people were put into the program, one of which had personality and memory-altering brain surgery fucking with his perception, it was STILL ABLE to recreate her 1:1 AND have her unequivocally be good and want to help save everyone meant every. single. one. of. them. Not only viewed Chiaki as THE beacon of light in their life, but understood her on a deep enough personal level that her passions, her connections, her desire to connect, her every mannerism was able to be perfectly copied. Do you know how hard that is? Do you know how difficult it is to get AI generation to do its job THAT PERFECTLY???? But the LOVE ALL OF THEM HAD FOR CHIAKI WAS STRONGER THAN THE BRAINWASHING, and was perfectly unified. Chiaki is beloved, more than any other character. If Makoto is hope, if Junko is despair, Chiaki is love. CHIAKI NANAMI IS LOVE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND-
